You updated your iPhone to the latest iOS 11.3, but for some reason as you try to take a screenshot the preview of the screenshot that you just took is missing.

Usually, it's not like that. You'll screenshot on your iPhone and the whole entire screen will flash white then that white flash will shrink into the bottom left hand side of your display as a miniature thumbnail preview of the screenshot that you just took.

Once the screenshot has been taken, you can then choose to wait for it disappear, tap on it, edit it or swipe the preview way off the screen.

But recently, for some iPhone users, including myself, have experienced a hiccup since updating to iOS 11.3. The screenshot feature sometimes works like normal, but other times when you try to take a screenshot a thin white border will appear around the screen instead of the big white flash.

The hard part is it's barely visible to see. So hard to see, in fact, you can't even tell whether your iPhone even took a screenshot or not.

You can see the difference between a normal screenshot and the buggy screenshot below.

In thisquick and simple guide, I'll show you how to fix when screenshot is not working on your iPhone in less than 3 minutes of your time. 🙂

How to Fix Screenshot Not Working on iOS 11: 5 Ways

Make sure to follow from 1 to 5 accordingly.

1. Restart your iPhone.

The first thing that you should do is try turning off your iPhone and then back on again.

Here's how.

If you're on an iPhone X.

Step 1: Go ahead press and hold down on your Side button and either one of your Volume buttons until you see 'Slide to power off' on your iPhone.

Step 2: Next, all you have to do is just slide to completely turn off your iPhone.

Step 3: After your iPhone X turns off, just press and hold your Side button again to turn it back on.

Done. You can try taking a screenshot to see if it the restart has brought back the screenshot preview notification.

If you're on iPhone 8, 8 Plus or earlier.

Step 1: Go ahead press and hold down on your Top (or Side) button until you see 'Slide to power off' on your iPhone.

Step 2: Next, all you have to do is just slide to completely turn off your iPhone.

Step 3: After your iPhone turns off, just press and hold your Top (or Side) button again to turn it back on.

Note

Since you're on iOS 11 or later, you can also turn off your iPhone by jumping into your Settings > General and then tap Shut Down to turn off your iPhone.

If you've already restarted your iPhone but the screenshot still does not work then try to …

2. Force Restart your iPhone.

A force restart (or more commonly known as hard reset) isn't the the same as how you normally restart your iPhone like you did above.

It's different and has a little more gunpowder in it (figuratively).

Here's how you can force restart your iPhone.

If you're on iPhone 8, 8 Plus or iPhone X.

Step 1: All you have to do is just press and then quickly release your Volume Up (+) button.

Step 2: Now do the same for your Volume Down () button. Press and quickly release.

Step 3: Next, follow up by pressing your Power button (it's on the right hand side) and then holding it until the Apple logo appears on your screen.

Logic pro sierra. That's it! 🙂

Once you've force restarted your iPhone, try checking if the screenshot has been fixed.

If you're on iPhone 7 or 7 Plus.

Step 1: Press and hold down on your Power button (Sleep/Wake) which is on the right hand side of your iPhone.

Step 2: Now, at the same time press and hold down your Volume Down () button which is on the left hand side of your iPhone.

Step 3: Keep holding both buttons until the Apple logo appears. You may see the 'Slide to power off' slider pop up midway through, just ignore it and keep holding down on both buttons.

That's it! 🙂

Once you've force restarted your iPhone, try checking if the screenshot has been fixed.

If you're on iPhone 6S, SE or earlier.

3. The DFU Restore (Optional).

This is the deepest type of restore that you can for your iPhone and usually it's the last resort to fix every problem you might get with your iPhone.

Now what does a DFU Restore do?

Well, when you perform a DFU Restore, it fixes your iPhone by restoring the very code that builds up/controls both the software and hardware of your iPhone.

But you don't have to do this.

If you feel that a restore is not very much needed since this is such a small issue then you don't have to do this and you can keep reading to try one of the other methods below. But if you're willing to try absolutely anything to fix this problem then this is an option that you can certainly go for .

I have written a quick and simple step-by-step guide for you that comes with easy to understand explanation and pictures on how you can do a DFU Restore on an iPhone. 🙂

If all else fails then …

4. Grab dem Pitchforks!

Nah I'm kidding.

What you can do is you can also try leaving a feedback to Apple to let them know to get this bug fixed.

If we have enough people experiencing this problem and submitting a feedback then we can certainly get Apple to follow up with what we say.

5. Just Sit Back, Relax and Wait for the Next iOS Update.

After you've went through all the above methods and you still find the Screenshot preview does not work, then all that you can do now is just wait for Apple to release a new iOS update to patch things up.
